The Rural Action for Climate Resilience (RACR) programme hosted its sixth Learning Festival in Johannesburg from 14 to 16 May. The Learning Festival brought together 24 rural project partners from five provinces to exchange information on climate resilience, to learn together, share expertise, network and to demonstrate innovative and practical approaches to respond to climate change. The learning festival is an engaging and fun space for peer learning, discussion and reflection.
Day one introduced participants to the Learning Festival and created a shared foundation for the sessions that followed. The day focused on climate justice, the Just Energy Transition, community resilience, storytelling and creative tools for local climate action.
Day two focused on how communities can turn local challenges into clear advocacy actions. The day helped participants think about how to identify a problem, gather evidence, involve the community and engage the right people in government, civil society and the media.
Day three took participants out of the workshop room and into a practical learning space through a field visit to The Compost Kitchen in Kyalami, Midrand. The visit gave participants a hands-on opportunity to see how organic waste can be transformed into a useful resource for soil health, food production and climate resilience.
