MAIN CHALLENGES FACED BY THE COMMUNITY: poverty, unemployment, crime, gender-based violence, drought.
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
- Community health – monitors health through home visits, outdoor and indoor exercises, nutritional support (provides three days of nutritious meals weekly to 30 beneficiaries) distributes vegetables to the broader community and stakeholders
- Cultural and Spiritual – arts and crafts (knitting, sewing, beadwork), and spiritual sessions
- Fundraising events
- Bath Salt project – to support its sustainability
Tlhabologang Community Based Care and Support Services, established in 2005, is a Local Development Agency based in the Free State. Tlhabologang CBCSS runs a range of impactful programmes including social events, health and awareness campaigns, and educational lectures.
HIGHLIGHTS
Key activities involve notable achievements in partnership with the Social Change Assistance Trust (SCAT) include being awarded Best Compliant CBO under the SCAT CBO Programme by Letsatsi Trust, establishing a formal governance structure through SCAT-supported training, and acquiring laptops and phones to improve organisational capacity and reporting. One of the organisation’s major highlights is its thriving permaculture-based garden, which has led to the implementation of 10 school gardens and gardens at all nine local daycare centres, where seasonal seedlings are distributed.
